DENVER - #18 Colorado School of Mines and Regis battled to a 1-1 draw in a weather-shorted game on Sunday.
Officials halted the game with 6:03 remaining in the second half due to lightning moving through Denver, and when the delay persisted, the game was called complete. Under NCAA rules, if a game can not be resumed with three hours of beginning, it is considered official if 70 minute have been completed.
It was an unlucky ending for Mines (4-1-1, 1-0-1 RMAC), who had the Rangers (3-1-2, 1-0-1 RMAC) on the defensive in the final 20 minutes before the delay. Despite Regis holding a 13-7 shots advantage, Mines had the better run of play in the second half, outshooting the hosts 5-2, and had a sustained period of pressure before the delay that nearly netted them a winner.
Haley Cole scored her second goal of the weekend in the seventh minute to open things up, finishing
Devon Dunmire's pass, but Regis leveled at 28:35 when Akina Fujimoto drilled a long-range effort.
The score stayed 1-1 despite several quality Mines opportunities, and
Laya Rybicki nearly won it in the 79th minute when her shot was cleared off the line by a Regis defender.
Shannon Mooney made a career-high six saves for Mines, while Julia Coombs had a single stop for Regis.
