LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Two first-half goals were enough for #18 Colorado School of Mines as they defeated Colorado Christian, 2-1, on Sunday.
The Orediggers (5-1-1, 2-0-1 RMAC) scored twice off corner kicks as they controlled the game, outshooting the Cougars (3-5-0, 0-3-0 RMAC) by a 12-5 margin in cold and wet conditions.
Taylor McRae put Mines haead just 1:38 into the game, finishing
Devon Dunmire's corner to get Mines off and running. The lead didn't last long, however, as CCU's Sheridan Spelman headed Renee De La Torre's volley at 19:10 to level the game on their first shot.
The winner came with only 18 seconds left in the first half as
Emily Garnier's corner connected with the head of
Nicole LaTourette for her second of the year.
McRae was the most active Oredigger offensively with three shots, and
Chaney Brugman had two.
Shannon Mooney had a save to pick up the win.
Mines returns home Sept. 29 to host New Mexico Highlands at 5 p.m.
