GOLDEN, Colo. - #23 Colorado School of Mines bounced back from a first-set loss to dispatch Westminster, 3-1, and stay perfect in RMAC play this season.
The Orediggers (10-3, 4-0 RMAC) were powered by big hitting nights from
Madeline Behr,
Lindsey Jin, and
Abby Tiesman, with
Delaney Duis pushing out 54 assists. Behr led all players with 21 kills hitting .417, Jin had 18 kills hitting .361, and Tiesman swung for 16 kills as Mines rebounded from a negative first set to hit .179 for the match.
Defense was a huge part of Mines' comeback with
LaRose Currie getting under 28 digs and
Hailey Babcock 15. Westminster stayed in it with outstanding blocking, stuffing 15 total blocks, as Audrey Green led then ith nine kills and 12 digs.Â
Attack errors doomed Mines in the first set as Westminster got up early won 25-18. Mines hit -.026 with 13 errors, and Westminster had five total blocks to carry their defensive effort.
It was a total turnaround for Mines in the second to win 25-14. The Orediggers hit a white-hot .441 as
Lindsey Jin had six kills in the set to even the match. It was closer in the third but Mines was still in total control to win 25-20, as Behr hit six kills and Tiesman five to power the Mines offense.
Westminster took control of the fourth in the middle of the set on a string of three straight Hannah Stearman aces, going up 15-10, but Mines answered back with an 8-3 run to knot it 18-18. It was point-for-point from there, with Mines answering Westminster's set point at 24-23 to eventually go up 26-25, and
Lindsey Jin's kill closed it out at 27-25.
Mines hits the road for a four-game swing starting Sept. 29 at Black Hills State.
