Mines Cruises In Homecoming Win Vs. Fort Lewis

GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines rolled to a 41-7 Homecoming win over Fort Lewis, led by another outstanding defensive effort and 308 yards on the ground.

Mines (3-2) improved to 3-0 at Marv Kay Stadium this season, outscoring opponents 156-14 over those three games.

Cameron Mayberry once again led the ground attack with 122 yards and a touchdown, his fourth consecutive 100+ yard game, with quarterbacks Ben Bottlinger and Cody Limmer also running for scores. Bottlinger threw for 130 yards and a touchdown to Brody Oliver, while Grayson Harris hit a career-long 52-yard field goal to go with another from 33.

The Mines defense produced another dominating effort, shutting FLC out for three quarters and allowing on 244 yards of total offense. Dean Wenger returned a fumble for a touchdown, Clayton Lauderdale had an interception in the end zone, and Brockton Sterling had two of Mines' three sacks.

Bottlinger put Mines on the board on their first drive, taking off on a run and scoring from 39 yards, and Mines doubled their lead three plays later. FLC quarterback Bo Coleman put a backwards pass over the head of Tyler Telphy, and Dean Wenger scooped and scored the live ball from 12 yards out to make it 14-0. The orediggers added Harris' 33-yard field goal in the second quarter to lead 17-0 at the break.

Seventeen points by Mines broke the game open in the third quarter. For the second straight week, the Orediggers scored on their first play of the second half, this time as Cameron Mayberry went for a career-long 74-yard touchdown run. Their next offensive drive stalled, but Harris connected from 52 yards, the program's longest since the 2014 season. Bottlinger later found Brody Oliver in the back of the end zone from 13 yards out to make it 34-0 at the end of the third.

Fort Lewis benefited from an interception to score their only points of the game, with the pick setting up a 24-yard pass from Coleman to AJ Shaw, but Limmer went 58 yards to the house three plays later to cancel it out. FLC threatened again late before a tip-drill interception created by Sean Kopel landed in Lauderdale's hands in the end zone, and Mines was able to kneel out from there.

Drew Stephon had a team-high eight tackles. RJ Phillips made seven stops, including a sack, while Sterling had six tackles to go with his two sacks and three tackles for a loss.

The Orediggers next fly to Los Angeles Oct. 7 to face Azusa Pacific.
