John Haist's hat trick, Colorado School of Mines found its first win of the season as they beat Cal State Monterey Bay 4-2.
Haist notched his second career hat trick in style, opening things with a Goal of the Year candidate before tacking on two second-half scores as the Orediggers (1-2) outshot the Otters (1-2) 18-5 overall.
Mines got on the board at 23:09 with an audacious backheel goal by Haist as he took
Trevor Amann's cross and flicked it to the far post to lead 1-0.
Aaron Safadi put Mines up two goals five minutes later, picking a loose ball out of a scramble from a corner and slotting it to the post for his first goal of the season.
CSUMB's Cameron DeJong scored in the 58th minute to cut the lead in half, but Haist shut the door with a head to
David Boldt's free kick at 72:55. Monterey Bay made it interesting with a screamer by Makenna Pendleton at 79:28, but Haist finished his hat trick less than a minute later, putting his head to
Jackson Shelledy's long throw to lead 4-2.
