ALAMOSA, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines suffered a cold shooting night as it fell to Adams State in a 60-54 decision on the road.
The Orediggers (15-5, 9-5 RMAC) were held to 31.5 percent shooting as they played from behind for the majority of the game, with the Grizzlies (11-10, 9-6 RMAC) securing the win thanks to a late 9-0 run.
Points were at a premium for both teams, but
Luke Schroepfer scored a team-high 15 points, including four three-pointers, while
Michael Glen was 5-for-10 for 14 points which included three from the outside. Jarrett Givens led all scorers with 16 for ASU.
Both teams put on a defensive showcase combining for 20 blocks (11 by Mines), with
Felix Scheytt stuffing a career-high six off the bench.
Mines trailed nearly the entire game, including much of a dismal first half for both teams that saw the Grizzlies lead 23-18 at the half after neither side scored for the final 4:17 of the period. Shots began to fall for Mines later in the game, though, and a 7-0 run by the visitors capped by a Schroepfer three-pointer at the 12:05 mark tied the game 32-32.
It was back and forth from there as Mines forged four more ties and a lead change, but back-to-back Schroepfer threes gave Mines its largest lead, 48-43, with 4:13 left in the game. ASU responded with nine straight points, however, including back-to-back Givens threes, to take control before Glen and
Luke Golter sandwiched threes after another Givens long ball to put Mines down 55-54 with 53 seconds left.
Shane Johnson hit a driving layup with 22 seconds left, however, to put the Grizzlies up three, and a miss at the other end by Mines put ASU at the line where Szymon Walczak hit three of four in the final 10 seconds to seal the game.

- It was Mines' first loss in Alamosa since the 2012-13 season.
- Scheytt's six blocks are tied for second-most in a game by an Oredigger and most since Trevor Wages stopped seven against Colorado Christian in the 2013-14 season.
