GOLDEN, Colo. - Peyton Sanders' second-half goal lifted #5 Colorado School of Mines to a 1-0 win over Westminster in dismal conditions at Stermole Stadium.
The Orediggers (10-1-1, 7-0-0 RMAC) remained unbeaten in conference play thanks to Sanders, who extended her goal scoring streak to three games. The game was played in a cold, steady rain which limited both teams at times and helped create Mines' goal as the Griffins (7-3-0, 4-2-0 RMAC) misplayed a slick ball.
After the first half saw Mines struggle to build possession and the two teams combine for only a single shot - Westminster's Skye Jefferies' bid over the bar - Mines did a complete 180 after halftime, outshooting the Griffins 11-4 in search of the winner. The breakthrough came in the 63rd minute off a creation by
Emma Peterson, who pounded a long-range shot that rebounded off goalkeeper Hillary Weixler for Sanders to finish with a shot across her body.
That would be all Mines needed as
Shannon Mooney made three saves and the Mines defense limited Westminster to five total shots in the game.
