2018 D2CCA South Central All-Region Teams

COLORADO SPRINGS –
Senior forward John Haist was named the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) South Central Regional Player of the Year Wednesday with Ben Overholt and Jason Zobott joining him as First-Team All-Region honorees for the Colorado School of Mines Men's Soccer team.

Mines tied for the most representatives on the D2CCA's first team. West Texas A&M also had a trio of first-team honorees. Haist, Overholt and Zobott will all advance to the D2CCA All-America ballot with Haist going up for D2CCA National Player of the Year honors.

The announcement marks Haist's seconds straight D2CCA South Central Regional Player of the Year award. Haist garnered the distinction after earning First-Team All-RMAC honors, RMAC All-Tournament team and RMAC Tournament MVP. The Englishman led the RMAC in scoring with 52 points on 23 goals and six assists. He currently leads NCAA Division II with eight game-winning goals on the year while ranking #2 in the nation in total goals and total points. Haist is the active leading scorer across all divisions of the NCAA with 146 points and 65 goals in his career. The striker owns Mines' single-season records for goals, points, shots, shots on goals and game-winning goals. He is also the Orediggers' all-time leader in total shots and game-winning goals. Haist's career goals and points numbers trail only Tesho Akindele who is now a striker for FC Dallas of the MLS.

Overholt earned the first all-region nod of his career after claiming First-Team All-RMAC distinction and finishing second on the team in scoring with five goals and six assists. He also took the second-most shots and put the second-most on goal among all Orediggers with 61 total attempts and 26 on frame. Overholt also earned RMAC First-Team All-Academic and CoSIDA Academic All-District distinction for his combined performance on the field and in the classroom. The redshirt junior produced two matches in which he scored a goal and notched an assist while tallying three game-winning goals on the year.

Zobott's also claimed the first all-region honor of his career after being named RMAC Defensive Player of the Year, First-Team All-RMAC and to the RMAC All-Tournament team. While his stats weren't gaudy, Zobott led a defense that produced the longest shutout streak in Mines history, spanning over 590 minutes and eight matches. The Illinois native finished the season with one assist but helped the Orediggers' defense post the second-lowest goals against average in program history 0.70 goals surrendered per game. Zobott also performed in the classroom as he was named RMAC First-Team All-Academic and CoSIDA Academic All-District to go along with his two RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

As a team, Mines finished the season 18-2-1, clinching its eighth RMAC regular-season crown in program history and hoisting its eighth RMAC Tournament cup while advancing to the Orediggers' eighth NCAA Tournament appearance. In addition to the longest shutout streak in program history, Mines also produced the longest winning streak in program history with 12 straight wins. The Orediggers did not lose a game in 70 days (Sept. 3 – Nov. 11). With postseason action still in progress, Mines currently ranks #1 in NCAA Division II in shots per game, #4 in shots on goal per game, #6 in win-loss-tied percentage and #9 in total goals.

Mines' season came to a close Monday with a 2-0 loss to #13 West Texas A&M in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Stermole Stadium. The Orediggers are slated to return all but three seniors for the 2019 season. Fans can keep up with all the postseason awards at www.MinesAthletics.com.
