GOLDEN, Colo.
- After leading one of the nation's best defenses in 2018, Colorado School of Mines center back Emily Townsend and goalkeeper Shannon Mooney have been named All-Americans.

The D2 Conference Commissioner's Association has named Townsend First-Team All-America and Mooney Second-Team All-America, while Townsend also picked up a second-team award from the United Soccer Coaches organization. The pair combined to lead a defense that ranked third in NCAA Division II in goals-against average (0.355) and shutout percentage (.682) while giving up only eight goals in 22 matches.

It is the second career award for Townsend, who was named to the D2CCA Third Team in 2016, and the first honor for Mooney.

Townsend, a senior, was the RMAC Defensive Player of the Year after anchoring the Mines defense in the middle. The Mines defense allowed only 6.4 shots per game, and Townsend led Mines field players in minutes at 2,005, nearly 500 more than any other player. Townsend also scored five goals, with three gamewinners. Townsend earned a bevy of postseason awards including United Soccer Coaches and D2CCA First-Team All-South Central, a RMAC All-Tournament team selection, First-Team All-RMAC, and RMAC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 11.

Mooney, a junior, enjoyed a standout season between the posts. The RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 9, Mooney owned a 0.38 GAA and .860 save percentage as she went 18-1-2 with 12 shutouts and another combined cleansheet. She was named Honorable Mention All-RMAC and RMAC All-Tournament. Mooney's GAA was the second-best in a season in Mines history, and her 12 shutouts third; she is currently second on the Mines career GAA list at 0.45.
