GUNNISON, Colo. - Joe Miks' three-point bonanza and a perfect game by
Michael Glen guided Colorado School of Mines in a 109-60 blowout at Western Colorado on Friday.
The Orediggers (5-3, 2-0 RMAC) won their fourth straight game, shooting 61.2 percent led by Glen, who was 9-for-9 for 22 points, and Miks, who was an eye-popping 9-for-11 from three-point range on his way to a career-high 29 points.
Mason Baker scored 12 and
Ben Sonnefeld and Brendon Sullivan each pitched in 10 points. The Mines bench outscored the Mountaineers' 48-13 as all 11 players who traveled scored in the game.
The game was never in doubt as Mines took a 17-2 lead in the first six minutes and never looked back, leading 47-19 at the half as they held WCU to 26.9 percent in the first half while canning 18-of-33 (54.5%) on the offensive end including 7-of-14 from the outside.
The second half began with a 20-5 run as Glen accounted for seven of those points, and Miks hit 15 points - all on three-pointers - in a 2:47 span later in the half to blow the lead to an incredible 61 at one point before the Mountaineer reserves played a competitive final 10 minutes.
NOTABLES
- The win was Mines' most lopsided since beating Diné College 121-30 in the 2016-17 season; it was their biggest RMAC victory since beating Regis 96-45 in the 2010-11 season.
- Mines' 109 points was the most in an RMAC game since scoring the same against New Mexico Highlands in 2014-15.
- Miks' nine three-pointers were the most by an Oredigger since 2004 (Stephen Bahl vs. South Dakota) and one short of Mike Ziegler's long-standing program record set in 1988. In 24 minutes, Miks was 10-of-13 overall and had five rebounds, two assists, and a steal to go with his 29 points.
- Glen was simply unstoppable offensively, hitting all nine of hit shots (two from the outside) and going 2-for-2 at the line along with a game-high six rebounds.
- Mines' 28 assists were their most in an RMAC game since notching 30 against CCU in 2013-14. Baker dished a career-high eight assists despite being limited to 19 minutes with first-half foul trouble, while Sonnefeld had six.
- Mines hit 15 of their first 18 shots in the second half.
- The Orediggers turned it over a season-low five times to WCU's 19; Mines score 40 points off turnovers to Western's three.
- Western Colorado had been averaging 83.4 points per game in their first seven outings.
- Brady Subart was a bright spot for WCU with 19 points.
