Mines Shoots Past Chadron State, 83-56

GOLDEN, Colo. - A red-hot shooting night from Colorado School of Mines helped them cruise to an 83-56 win over Chadron State Friday night.

The Orediggers (16-6, 10-6 RMAC) shot 58.5 percent for the game and 12-of-19 for three as they used a huge early second-half run to leave the Eagles (3-20, 1-16 RMAC) behind.

Luke Schroepfer drained 21 points going 4-for-5 from beyond the arc, while Adam Laine poured in 18 to go with seven rebounds and Duke Douglas had 16 points. Michael Glen added 12 points and six boards.

After a tight first 10 minutes, Mines slowly put some space in the game with an 11-3 run late in the first half keyed by a pair of Zach Rusk buckets and four points from Laine. A Douglas three just before the break gave Mines its largest lead to that point, 13 points, but CSC got a late basket to make it 41-30 Mines at the half.

The Orediggers shut the door with a huge early second-half run, outscoring CSC 24-8 over the opening eight minutes as Schroepfer scored 13 of his 21 during that span. Schroepfer hit three three-pointers in that stretch as Ben Sonnefeld and Glen also added outside shots to balloon the lead to 27, 65-38, at the 11:45 mark. Chadron State would never get any closer as Mines won going away.
