GAME 1 - Emporia State 8, Mines 5
A six-run sixth inning by Emporia State handed them an 8-5 win in Colorado School of Mines' first game on Saturday.
Mines was led by two RBI from
Katie Leiker and a 2-for-2 day by
Kelsey Buechler. They got on the board quickly in the first thanks to a wild pitch that brought
Sonoma Toot across, and
Clara Larson's double scored
Dani Valerio before Leiker homered to right to make it 4-0 before ESU even got to bat.
Emporia State chipped away with a pair of RBI singles from Valerie Kinney in the first and third, but
Megan Dickson's sacrifice fly to score
Brielle Asato made it 5-2 Orediggers in the fourth. Things fell apart in the sixth, however, as a two-run triple by Anne Rockley sparked a six-run rally that included three scoring singles in succession to pull ahead.
Claire Stringfellow (0-1) took the decision in 5.2 innings of work despite allowing only one earned run as an early Mines error in the sixth left all of ESU's runs unearned.
Kylie Redding made her first career appearance in the sixth to face two batters, and
Maddie Rogers got out of the inning facing two batters as well. Monta Mesler (1-0) earned the win, striking out six.
GAME 2 - Lubbock Christian 9, Mines 7
In the second game of the day, Mines erased a big Lubbock Christian lead only to see LCU rally back in the sixth to win it, 9-7.
Sonoma Toot went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored while
Megan Dickson hit her first career home run as seven different Orediggers recorded hits in the game.
The Chaps put three on the board in the first and two more in the second to lead 5-0, but Mines chipped away as Toot and
Stefanie Brunello scored on an error in the third before
Katie Leiker doubled in
Clara Larson to cut the deficit to 5-3. Dickson went yard on a solo shot in the fourth, and Mines then took the lead in the sixth when Toot singled in
Pua Fujinaga and
Brielle Asato, and Larson drove in Toot to set the margin at 7-5.
LCU's Logan Grado homered to start the sixth, and the Chaps tied it on Lindzi Clemmer's single later in the inning before going ahead thanks to Haley Harison's RBI single.
Hallie Smith (1-1) went the distance allowing all nine with three strikeouts. Monique Francois (2-0) struck out three and allowed four earned over seven innings for LCU.
