Mines Bows Out In RMAC Semis

DURANGO, Colo. - Regis ended Colorado School of Mines' RMAC Tournament run, hanging on for an 89-83 win in the semifinals at Fort Lewis.

The Orediggers (22-8) shot 52.6 percent for the game including 14-of-17 at the line but still lost to the Rangers (25-5), who committed only five turnovers and sank 10-of-20 from the outside. Mines is now firmly on the bubble for an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament after entering the weekend eighth in the South Central regional rankings.

Five Orediggers scored in double figures led by Luke Schroepfer's 19, and Michael Glen had 16 points with eight rebounds. However, foul trouble hampered the Orediggers all game long, with Ben Sonnefeld and Adam Laine having to sit long stretches of the first half and Glen limited defensively in the second due to his trouble.

Regis led most of the game and the entire second half as Mines couldn't quite get over the hump despite cutting the Ranger lead to a point on two occasions late. Jarrett Brodbeck led Regis with 26 points as Ty McGee had 21 off the bench.

Down eight with 5:30 left, Mines chipped away on free throws by Sonnefeld and Zach Rusk before a Schroepfer three-pointer made it a one-point game, 76-75, with 4:14 to go. Regis answered with two straight buckets but a Douglas layup and Laine three-point play again made it a one-point game. Brodbeck answered with a dagger three-pointer with 1:10 to go, and McGee's alley-oop from Christian Little all but sealed it with nine seconds left.

NOTABLES
- The last time Mines shot 52 percent or better and lost was in the 2015 NCAA First Round against UCCS when they hit 52.2 percent but fell 90-87.
- In addition to Schroepfer and Glen, Adam Laine (15), Duke Douglas (13), and Mason Baker (11) hit double-digit scoring.
- If it is the final game for Mines, Luke Schroepfer will go down as the most accurate three-point shooter in Mines history at .476, well ahead of the record of .423 set by Mike Ziegler (1986-90). Schroepfer has 1,255 career points and made 242 of 508 three-point attempts.
- Junior center Felix Scheytt hit a halfcourt buzzerbeater to end the first half, sinking his first career three-point attempt.
- Regis shot 48.4 percent for the game including 10-for-20 for three and 19-for-27 at the line.
