GAME 1 - #1 Colorado Mesa 13, Mines 8
Colorado School of Mines bashed five home runs, including two by
Clara Larson, but a late surge by #1 Colorado Mesa handed them a 13-8 win in game three of the series.
The Orediggers put five of their seven hits over the fence as Larson went yard twice and
Kara Jones,
Megan Dickson, and
Katie Leiker added dingers as Mines overcame a 6-1 deficit to take an 8-6 lead in the fifth inning.
Larson got Mines on the board first with a solo shot in the first, but CMU answered with six runs spread across the first three innings to go up 6-1. Mines then had a huge seven-run fifth to break open the game, starting with Dickson and Leiker homering back-to-back to lead off the inning.
Brielle Asato's triple later in the frame scored
Dani Valerio and forced a CMU pitching change, but Mines continued to bash it as Larson drilled a three-run shot to take the lead, 7-6, and Jones hit one out on the next at-bat to pad the lead.
The Mavs answered with a six-run sixth, however, generating a pair of RBI hits and taking advantage of an error and a bases-load hit-by-pitch to go ahead 13-8 and win.
Hallie Smith (6-7) had the start for Mines and was charged with eight of CMU's 13 runs.
Claire Stringfellow worked the final out of the sixth. McKenzie Surface left trailing allowing five earned, with reliever Kimbri Herring (11-0) earning the win allowing three runs.
GAME 2 - #1 Colorado Mesa 10, Mines 2 (5 inn.)
Colorado Mesa advanced to 30-0 on the season with a 10-2 win to end the series.
The Orediggers (15-17) had seven hits but managed only a pair of runs in the fourth after the Mavericks took a big early lead on six runs across the first two innings.
Mines' fourth saw
Katie Leiker single in
Kara Jones and
Megan Dickson score as
Loren Dempsey reached on an error. CMU scored in four different innings keyed by a four-run second that saw them manufacture runs on two hits, a fielder's choice, and a bases-loaded walk.
Claire Stringfellow (6-5) struck out three allowing six earned. Brooke Hodgson (4-0) had four strikeouts for CMU.
Dickson continued her hot hitting going 2-for-3 while Leiker was 3-for-3. Dickson ended the series going 6-for-12 with three home runs and 5 RBI.
