2018 CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams
GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Baseball team had five student-athletes voted to the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team for their combination of athletic and academic achievement.
Â
Walter Pennington,
Mikey Gangwish,
Derek Daly,
Trevor Kehe and
Joe Popp make up nearly half of the 12-member squad as voted upon by sports information directors across the region. Â To be considered for the Academic All-District squads, a student-athlete must carry a 3.3 or higher GPA as a sophomore or above and be a starter or significant contributor to their team.
Â
The announcement marks the first CoSIDA Academic honors for all five Orediggers. The group was also voted RMAC First-Team All-Academic earlier this season. Additionally, Pennington, Gangiwsh, Kehe and Popp were named All-RMAC for their work on the field with Gangwish taking home RMAC Player of the Year honors.
Â
All five Orediggers move onto the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-American ballot. The five-man contingency is yet another highlight in a record-setting season for Mines as the Orediggers have already broken seven team and individual program records.
Â
Mines' season continues tonight in the RMAC Tournament as the Orediggers face CSU-Pueblo at 7 p.m. in Grand Junction on the winners' side of the bracket. Live stats and video will be available at www.minesathletics.com.
