COLORADO SPRINGS –
Junior catcher Mikey Gangwish was named the RMAC Baseball Player of the Year Tuesday as six other Orediggers earned All-RMAC honors as the conference office released its 2018 season awards.

Tyler Blomster, Jace Selsor and Trevor Kehe joined Gangwish as First-Team All-RMAC honorees. Joe Popp earned second-team honors, while Walter Pennington and Gabe Garvens grabbed honorable mention distinction. Gangwish, Selsor and Kehe were also named to the RMAC Gold Glove Team for their defensive excellence.

Gangwish's Player of the Year award follows a record-setting regular season. Over 46 games he set the program's single-season record for home runs (20), RBI (67) and total bases (150). Gangwish finished the regular season batting .391 and slugging .862 with 63 runs on 68 hits. The Albuquerque native ranks fourth in NCAA Division II in total home runs and RBI and fifth in home runs per game and RBI per game. He is No. 2 in the country in slugging and No. 4 in total bases.

Behind the plate Gangwish had just three passed balls and gunned down 10 runners on the base paths. He was also named National Hitter of the Week, Regional Hitter of the Week, RMAC Hitter of the Week twice and RMAC First-Team All-Academic. The junior earned a RMAC Gold Glove in 2017 as well.

Blomster earned the first All-RMAC nod of his career as a first-team pitcher. The sophomore was undefeated at 7-0 in seven starts and eight appearances. He led all starters in the RMAC with a 2.34 earned-run average as he struck out 56 batters in 50.0 innings. Blomster held opposing hitters to a .247 average while tossing two complete games and earning RMAC Pitcher of the Week twice.

Selsor got the first-team and gold glove nod at first base for the first time in his career after hitting .400 with 66 hits in 41 games while fielding 1.000 in the field on 317 chances, recording 302 putouts with 15 assists. The junior finished the regular season with 14 doubles, two triples and seven home runs as he racked up 41 RBI and scored 47 runs. Selsor ranked top-10 in the RMAC in five offensive categories and was one of three players to have no errors on the season. The San Antonio native also earned RMAC First-Team All-Academic honors for the first time in his career.

Kehe earned First-Team All-RMAC in the outfield and may have been a close second for Player of the Year after a record-setting season of his own. The redshirt sophomore set Mines' single-season runs record as he came across the plate 69 times in 46 games. He finished the regular season batting .401 with 21 doubles, one triple and 14 home runs with 43 RBI. Kehe's 21 doubles rank No. 2 on Mines' all-time, single-season list. He is also second in single-season total bases behind Gangwish.

Nationally, Kehe ranks top-10 in DII in four different categories and top-15 in two others. The Golden native earned his RMAC Gold Glove thanks to just one error (.991) on 116 total chances in center field with four outfield assists. Kehe was also named to the RMAC All-Tournament team in 2017.

Popp's second-team nod is the first All-RMAC honor of his career. The junior outfielder started all 46 games of the regular season and hit .378, scoring 47 runs on 12 doubles and 10 home runs with 50 RBI. He slugged .622 and ranked top-10 in the RMAC in six offensive categories. In the classroom, Popp studied his way to RMAC First-Team All-Academic honors.

Pennington's honorable mention distinction came on the tails of a solid year on the mound and at the plate. The Broomfield native went 5-3 on the bump with one save in nine starts and 11 appearances. At the dish he hit nine doubles and 11 home runs while scoring 31 times and driving in 31 more.

Garvens earned his honorable mention honor with a strong case for RMAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year. He recorded four saves in 10 appearances and went 3-0 with a 3.15 earned-run average. The Austin, Texas, native struck out 11 batters in 20 innings and also recorded 12 at-bats.

As a team, Mines led the RMAC in doubles (124), home runs (76), total bases (882) and slugging (.575). The Orediggers shattered the single-season record for home runs and currently ranks No. 2 in the nation in slugging, No. 3 in home runs per game and doubles per game, No. 4 in total doubles and No. 5 in total home runs.
