2018 ABCA/Rawlings National Gold Glove Teams

GREENSBORO, N.C. –
Rising senior Jace Selsor was named the top defensive first baseman in all of NCAA Division II Wednesday as the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Rawlings Sporting Goods announced the 2018 National Gold Glove teams.

Selsor is the second ABCA/Rawlings National Gold Glove award winner in Colorado School of Mines baseball history and the first since outfielder Bobby Egeberg garnered the accolade in 2012. The honor adds to Selsor's impressive 2018 resume which includes NCBWA Second-Team All-Region, First-Team All-RMAC, RMAC Gold Glove and RMAC First-Team All-Academic.

The San Antonio, Texas, native earned the distinction as DII's top defender at first base thanks to a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000 as he recorded 395 putouts in 418 chances with 23 assists and no errors over 50 games. He was one of just two baseball student-athletes in the RMAC with no errors on the season as his total chances and putouts ranked #1 in the conference.

Offensively, Selsor was equally efficient as he led Mines with a .402 batting average, scoring 57 runs on 82 hits including 16 doubles, two triples and nine home runs with 51 RBI. Nearly all his 2018 numbers made the Mines record book as he produced the third-most hits, sixth-most at-bats, fourth-most runs, fifth-most RBI, and fourth-most total bases in single season. Selsor ranks in the Orediggers' top 10 in career hits, runs, doubles, triples, home runs, RBI and total bases.

The Rawlings Gold Glove winners have been selected since 2007, featuring many future Major League Baseball Players. The awards are selected by ABCA coaches committees at each level. The ABCA Rawlings Award Program is one of the most comprehensive in all ports, awarding All-America Teams and Gold Glove teams in nine divisions on amateur baseball as well as All-Region Teams in five divisions.

As a team, Mines went 37-18 and finished second in the RMAC standings on its way to the first NCAA Tournament berth in program history. The Orediggers went 2-2 at the South Central Regional and closed its season just one win shy of the championship game. The 2018 squad combined to tie or break 23 records with 33 additional entries into the baseball record book.

Mines loses 11 seniors to graduation, but is projected to return 30 Orediggers for 2019. Fans can keep up with the Mines Baseball team in the offseason on Twitter at @OrediggersBSB.
