GOLDEN, Colo. - Head coach Gregg Brandon has named senior linebackers Logan Bock and Grant Gale, senior receiver Brody Oliver, and junior center Grant Stewart as Colorado School of Mines' captains for the 2018 season.

The quartet were introduced to the team before their intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, closing two weeks of preseason camp as the Orediggers prepare for their season opener Sept. 1 against Adams State at Marv Kay Stadium.

Bock earned the leadership role after a bounceback season in 2017 saw him pick up a honorable mention all-RMAC award. After suffering a season-ending injury a game into 2016, Bock produced 25 tackles with 4.0 for a loss and 2.0 sacks and a team-best seven hurries a year ago. Bock is already a Mines graduate, earning his degree in mechanical engineering while working on a master's in engineering & technology management this year.

Gale hopes for a comeback of his own after missing all of 2017 with an injury suffered in preseason. He had a breakout 2016 as a starting middle linebacker, generating 83 tackles with 2.5 for a loss and a sack to go with an interception and a forced fumble. He had a combined 14 tackles in Mines' two NCAA Tournament games that year.

Oliver, a returning captain, enters 2018 with 2,671 yards and 38 touchdowns in his career; his latter mark is the Mines record and is tied for third in RMAC history. A consensus all-American in 2016 after catching 85 passes for 1,627 yards and 26 touchdowns, he had another terrific season in 2017 that earned his First-Team All-RMAC honors thanks to his 64 catches for 950 yards and 12 scores. Oliver was a D2football.com Preseason All-American and Preseason All-RMAC pick this summer.

Stewart returns to anchor the Mines offensive line in his third year as a starter. Since taking over the starting center role as a redshirt freshman, Mines has had some of the best O-line play in the country, including NCAA D-II's #1 total offense in 2016 and the #10 rushing offense in 2017; Stewart has had an all-American behind him each of the last two seasons, blocking for 2016 national player of the year Justin Dvorak and 2017 consensus all-American Cameron Mayberry. Stewart was Second-Team All-RMAC a year ago and a Preseason All-RMAC selection this year.
