CHICO, Calif. - Three first-half goals propelled #13 Colorado School of Mines to a 3-0 shutout of San Francisco State to open the 2018 season.
Taylor McRae,
Jennifer Kendall, and
Hannah Stoner all found the net as the Orediggers (1-0) outshot SFSU (0-1) by a 16-7 margin. As has become their signature, Mines scored twice off set pieces with both McRae's and Stoner's goals coming from corners.
It took only six minutes for Mines to get on the board in the new season as a McRae shot was tipped over the bar for a corner; she found the net on the ensuing corner as
Emily Townsend put the ball to McRae's head at 6:03.
Kendall doubled the lead with a top-shelf strike from open play at 26:09, and Stoner got her goal at 44:07 from freshman
Eliot Edwards' pass.
Shannon Mooney picked up the win and the clean sheet with two saves on seven shots faced. SFSU counterpart Nicki Rucki made five stops in the loss.
