RAPID CITY, S.D. – Oredigger goalkeeper
Drew Johnson had himself a night Friday, recording an unlikely assist in the Colorado School of Mines Men's Soccer team's 3-0 victory over South Dakota Mines at Sioux Park Stadium in the 2018 RMAC opener.
Johnson's assist on Mines' final goal of the night is the first by an Oredigger goalkeeper since 2003, when Kevin Galloway had an assists against St. Edward's. The redshirt junior also recorded four saves in his third shutout of the year, improving to 4-1 in his career.
On offense,
Ben Overholt,
John Haist and
Tristan Semelsberger all recorded goals for the Orediggers. Overholt and Haist have three goals on the year while Semelsberger notched his second.
Ford Edwards and
Lucas King joined Johnson in the assists column. Haist and
Matthew Summerfield led Mines in attempts as the duo combined for 10 shots in the match with four on goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Orediggers (4-1-0, 1-0-0 RMAC) dominated the game, outshooting the Hardrockers (1-4-0, 0-1-0 RMAC) by a 22-8 margin, including 13-4 in the first half.
Mines got off to a fast start as Overholt found the net in the 20th minute, created by Edwards, but the Orediggers couldn't find a second before the break despite 13 first-half shots. The insurance came early in the second as King set up Haist's tally, and Semelsberger got on the scoresheet with 1:44 remaining as Johnson's long clearance set up the goal.
