Haist’s Hat Trick Propels Mines Past UCCS , 4-1

COLORADO SPRINGS – Senior striker John Haist notched a hat trick Sunday as the Colorado School of Mines Men's Soccer team cruised to a 4-1 victory over UCCS at Mountain Lion Field.

Haist led the Orediggers' offense, scoring three goals on five shots with four on frame. Lucas King accounted for Mines' other tally as he converted his lone attempt in the match. Patrick Allan notched a pair of assists while Tristan Semelsberger, Ford Edwards and Matthew Summerfield recorded assists as well.

As a team, Mines (5-1-0, 2-0-0 RMAC) outshot UCCS (1-2-2, 0-1-1 RMAC) 21-18. The Orediggers put nine of their attempts on goal while Drew Johnson made three saves in the fifth win of his career at Mines.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mines struck first just six minutes and 19 seconds into the match as Haist scored on a breakaway set up by Allan. Less than 40 seconds later it was King's turn as he put a pass from Edwards over the goalkeepers head at the 6:54 mark.

The Mountain Lions responded in the 25th minute. Alex VonHolle slipped the ball inside the left post from seven yards out off a pass from Jack Mills to make it 2-1.

Unfortunately for UCCS, Haist was far from done. In the 38th minute the senior striker scored top shelf thanks to a cross from Semelsberger making it 3-1, Mines. Then, with less than two minutes to play in the half, Haist capped his hat trick with a shot inside the right post thanks to a flick from Summerfield via Allan.

After the first-half scoring outburst, neither team was able to find the net in the second period. Both teams combined for 17 shots. The Mountain Lions put two on goal compared to Mines' one, but Johnson was there to make both saves as the Orediggers claimed victory.
