PUEBLO, Colo. - Goals less than four minutes apart by
Jennifer Kendall and
Acacia Ortiz set the stage for a 2-1 win by #7 Colorado School of Mines at CSU-Pueblo on Friday.
The Orediggers (6-1-1, 3-0-0 RMAC) stayed undefeated in league play as
Shannon Mooney matched a career high with six saves to stop a game Thunderwolves (3-3-1, 0-3-0 RMAC) side.
After a scoreless first half, the Orediggers got on the board in the 57th minute when a foul in the box gave them their first penalty kick chance of the season. Kendall buried the spot kick for her team-leading fourth goal of the season, and Ortiz scored from open play less than four minutes later to stun CSUP and put Mines up 2-0.
Karley Whiteman cut the deficit in half for the hosts with a curling free kick from the top of the box at 64:10, but the Mines defense clamped down and did not allow the equalizer despite six second-half shots by the Thunderwolves and playing the final 10 minutes a woman down after
Peyton Sanders was shown a second yellow card.Â
