LAS VEGAS, N.M. - First-half goals by
Emily Townsend and
Hannah Stoner were all #7 Colorado School of Mines needed as it cruised to a 2-0 win at New Mexico Highlands.
The Orediggers (7-1-1, 4-0-0 RMAC) remained perfect in league play as an aggressive offensive attack helped them outshoot the Cowgirls (0-7-0, 0-4-0 RMAC) by a 29-4 margin and dominate possession throughout the game.
Mines peppered NMHU goalkeeper Karina Vega early and often, but their opening goal came off a set piece in the 17th minute when
Dominique Rivera teed up a corner kick for
Emily Townsend to head home. The second goal came in the 39th minute as a long clearance from the back by
Giselle Sawaged fell to the feet of
Hannah Stoner, who dribbled through traffic and beat Vega for the 2-0 lead.
The visitors couldn't add to the lead despite 15 second-half shots, but the defense allowed just one long-range look to the Cowgirls to preserve the shutout.
