M. Soccer Unleashes Six-Goal Outburst in Shutout Win at CSEB

HAYWARD, Calif. – There was no shortage of offense for the Colorado School of Mines Men's Soccer team Sunday as it took down Cal State East Bay 6-0 at Pioneer Stadium, completing a 2-0 trip to California.

Six different Orediggers accounted for Mines' six goals. Ford Edwards and Connor van Loveren scored their first goals of the season. The tallies for John Haist, Ben Overholt and Lucas King mark their second goals of the season. Matthew Summerfield scored his fourth goal of the year. Talon Stanley chipped in two assists with Tristan Semelsberger and Haist rounding out the helpers.

Mines (3-1-0) was also stellar on defense as they limited the Pioneers (1-2-0) to just six shots with only one on goal. Drew Johnson recorded the loan save required and turned in his second shutout of the year, improving to 3-1 in his career.

As a team, the Orediggers racked up 18 shots with 12 on goal. The offensive production forced the Pioneers into switch goalkeepers at halftime. The visitors finished the day with three corner kick opportunities.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mines wasted little time unleashing the scoring deluge as Edwards made it 1-0 in the 10th minute off a Stanley assist. King followed up with his goal shortly after in the 12th minute thanks to Stanley's second assist.

Van Loveren made it 3-0 in the 37th minute. Semelsberger put a shot on goal only to have it saved. However, van Loveren was there to clean up the rebound. Summerfield rounded out the first-half scoring with his own unassisted tally.

The second half proved relatively tame until the 56th minute when Haist was fouled cutting into the penalty area with the ball. He stepped to the spot and converted his penalty to make it 5-0. Haist also contributed on the final score of the day as he assisted Overholt in the 68'.
