THIS WEEK
After an outstanding first half of the season, Colorado School of Mines gets 2019 going with a busy weekend of action on the road. The Orediggers will split the squad as they face off against Adams State and New Mexico Highlands in RMAC duals on Friday and Saturday, with anther contingent heading to Nebraska for the Hastings Cusatis Open on Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT
Mines' last action was back on Dec. 6 as they beat #9 Western Colorado, 25-16. Robert Gambrell's pin and technical falls from Noah Ottum and Skyler Lykins led the way as they overcame an early deficit with the Mountaineers leading 9-3 after 141 pounds. Mines beat WCU for the first time since 2002-03. Noah Au-Yeung, Connor Ventura, and Weston Hunt also earned wins for Mines.

SO FAR, SO GOOD
Mines is out to a 5-0 start in dual meet competition, including RMAC wins over #13 Chadron State, San Francisco State, and #9 Western Colorado. This weekend the Orediggers face a pair of teams they narrowly beat a year ago; Mines beat NMHU 22-18 as Weston Hunt and Zach Gracia ended the dual with decisions, and pins by Gracia and TJ Shelton proved key as Mines beat then-#21 Adams State 20-18.

GIANT KILLERS
Mines has won four consecutive duals over nationally-ranked teams dating back to last year, knocking off #21 Adams State and #5 CSU-Pueblo in the 2017-18 season, and #13 Chadron State and #9 Western Colorado this season. Overall, Mines is on an eight-dual win streak dating back to the 2017-18 season.

LEADING THE WAY
Robert Gambrell has been Mines' on-mat leader this season, sporting the team's best overall record (8-1) and most dual points (25) at 174 pounds; impressively, all eight of Gambrell's wins have come with bonus points (4 majors, 1 tech, 3 falls). Noah Au-Yeung and Ryan Fidel are right behind him with seven wins apiece. Brandon Saunders leads the team with four pins with both Jake Feldman and Gambrell at three each.

IN THE RANKINGS
Mines received votes in the most recent NWCA Top 25 team poll, with Adams State also appearing in the receiving votes column. Individual, Noah Au-Yeung dropped to #12 nationally at 133; he could face another top-25 wrestler this weekend in Adams States Darek Huff, who is ranked #5.

LOOKING AHEAD
Mines will face a big test as they host #1 Nebraska-Kearney on Jan. 11 before traveling to #14 Fort Hays State on Jan. 17.
