ST. GEORGE, Utah – Senior defender
Jason Zobott played the hero for the Colorado School of Mines Men's Soccer team on Sunday with his second-half game-winner in a 2-1 win over Dixie State at Trailblazer Stadium.
Zobott's goal was a heading attempt in the 67th minute of action off a free kick from
Talon Stanley.
Ford Edwards accounted for the Orediggers' first goal, striking in the 21st minute just 15 seconds after Dixie State had taken the lead. Edwards close-range shot came thanks to a pass from
Lucas King. Zobott finished the match with three attempts, placing all three on frame. Edwards also took three shots and put two on goal. Goalkeeper
Drew Johnson (8-2-2) made five saves in the win.
With the victory, Mines improved to 8-2-2 overall and 6-0-2 in RMAC play. The Orediggers extended their unbeaten streak to seven straight matches and remain atop the RMAC standings. Dixie State fell to 6-5-1 overall and 5-3-0 in conference. Mines edged the home team in shots by a margin of 16-13 while racking up 10 shots on goal. There were also three yellow cards issued in the match.
NOTABLES
- Mines is now 3-0 in the all-time series against Dixie State.
- Edwards goal marks the senior's fourth of the season and 10th of his career. He has scored in three of Mines' last four matches.
- Zobott moves up to three goals on the year and five in his career. The defender's three goals in 2019 are a single-season high for the senior.
- King's assist was his seventh of the season. He continues to lead the team and the RMAC in total assists and assists per game.
- Stanley now has two assists in 2019.
- Mines has not lost to a conference opponent in 32 consecutive matches – the longest active streak in all of NCAA Division II.
- Head coach
Greg Mulholland is now 43-8-4 in three seasons at the helm.
