LaTourette's Goal Powers #16 Mines At Dixie State

ST. GEORGE, UTAH - Nicole LaTourette's second-half strike gave #16 Colorado School of Mines the win at Dixie State in a 1-0 road battle.

The Orediggers (11-1-1, 7-0-1 RMAC) notched their fifth straight shutout behind a four-save day from Shannon Mooney. The Trailblazers (5-3-3, 3-2-2 RMAC) had early and late pressure but were ultimately held to eight shots by the Mines defense.

DSU went on the offensive immediately, earning two straight corners in the opening 1:30 and forcing two crucial saves by the Orediggers as Lauren Buxton's shot was kick saved by Mooney and Whitley Johns' rebound putback hit Giselle Sawaged on the line. Mines got going a half-hour in when a flurry of shots by Chaney Brugman and LaTourette were turned aside, and the rest of the first half was a possession battle as the teams were locked 4-4 on shots.

Audrey Shin had Mines' best chance of the game to that point when she fired through traffic to force a diving Adelle Brown save in the 54th minute, and both teams had goals disallowed in the next 11 minutes. Dixie State's came first as a corner kick went directly into the net but Sophie Stewart was whistled for pulling down Mooney before the ball arrived; moments later, Sawaged's header on a breakaway was disallowed for offsides.

Mines finally got on the board in the 69th minute when Lindsey Tornabene settled a loose ball to LaTourette, who turned and rifled a shot to the upper-left corner for the game's only goal. The Orediggers locked down on defense from there despite four late DSU corners.
