DURANGO, Colo. - #9 Colorado School of Mines put on the pressure, but was held to a 0-0 draw at Fort Lewis on Friday.
The Orediggers (8-1-0, 4-0-1 RMAC) played the more positive soccer in the game as the Skyhawks (2-3-2, 1-1-2 RMAC) sat back for most of regulation. The visitors held a 16-4 shot advantage in the game and had numerous scoring chances through the second half and overtime.
The Orediggers dominated possession in the first half but were held without a good look in open play, and their two best chances of the half came from free kicks.
Jordan Barnhart forced a fine tip save over the bar by Britt Blomso in the 42nd minute, then challenged Blomso again with a low 20-yard shot through traffic at the stroke of halftime.
The Skyhawks made a goalkeeper switch to Katie Dunbabin for the second half, but the FLC defense continued their support despite massive Oredigger pressure. Free kick chances by
Lindsey Tornabene and
Emma Peterson were saved at the bar, and another Tornabene header from a corner was cleared off the line by the defense.
Emi Higgins had Mines' best chance of the game from open play when she fired inches over the bar in the 81st minute, but regulation ended scoreless despite a 13-3 shot advantage for Mines.
Nicole LaTourette had a shot on goal midway through the first overtime saved by Dunbabin, and Peterson lobbed a dropping ball off the crossbar in the 99th minute.
Barnhart had a chance with a header north of goal to start the second overtime, and Peterson again tested Dunbabin with a 30-yard shot that was saved over the bar. A string of corners late in the period didn't produce a goal for Mines as the game ended scoreless.
