Mines Tops MSU Denver, Moves On To RMAC Final

GOLDEN, Colo. - #16 Colorado School of Mines scored in each half as it shut out MSU Denver, 2-0, to move onto the RMAC Tournament final and a rematch with UCCS.

The Orediggers (17-2-1) received goals from Chaney Brugman and Lindsey Tornabene as they outshot the Roadrunners (8-9-3) 16-7. Mines will travel to UCCS for the final on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m.

Mines controlled the early part of the game, peppering shots off target before finally breaking through in the 34th minute. A handball at midfield set up a Jordan Barnhart free kick, and Brugman deflected the header into the upper half of goal for the 1-0 lead. The Roadrunners responded with a sustained period of possession for the remainder of the half, but the Orediggers rode it out and nearly made it 2-0 when Tornabene's bicycle kick at the buzzer was inches over the bar.

The second half was all Orediggers as they started on the attack and were rewarded with Tornabene's goal in the 52nd minute. The senior outside back made a run to the box and shot on the slide to the far side netting for a 2-0 lead. Mines had a chance to go up 3-0 minutes later when Kaylee Kennedy drew a penalty inside the box, but Nicole LaTourette's take missed over the bar.
