Seniors Lead The Way In #16 Mines' 4-0 Win

GOLDEN, Colo. - #16 Colorado School of Mines' seniors led the way in a 4-0 win against Colorado Christian to end the regular season.

The Orediggers now stand at 15-2-1 and 11-1-1 in the RMAC, and will host one half of the RMAC Tournament bracket as they meet Fort Lewis at noon on Friday in the quarterfinals. Dixie State and MSU Denver will play the other quarterfinal at 2:30 p.m. at Stermole Stadium.

Mines wasted no time asserting its will offensively, scoring on Giselle Sawaged's goal just 49 seconds into the game and never looking back as they outshot CCU 34-8. Audrey Shin created the opener off a long throw in that was tapped out by Emi Higgins to Sawaged at the top of the box, and she blasted a rocket to the upper corner for the new fastest goal in Mines history.

Meg Zimmerman got on the board in the 25th minute when a rebounded CCU shot was played long out of the back by Emma Peterson, and Zimmerman's counter run ended with the 2-0 lead. Kaylee Kennedy added two second-half goals, scoring less than two minutes apart on crosses by Shin and Nicole LaTourette in the 84th and 86th minutes, respectively.

Shannon Mooney made two saves to pick up her 50th career win in what was her 33rd career shutout.

NOTABLES
- Sawaged's goal was the fastest in program history, coming one second quicker (49 seconds) than Mickey Hostetler's against CSU-Pueblo earlier this season.
- Sawaged scored for the fourth time this year, her new career high for goals in a season. Kennedy also set a new career high as she scored her third and fourth goals of the season, as did Zimmerman with her third.
- Kennedy enters the postseason on fire with points in four straight games to end the regular season. The junior had assists vs. MSU Denver and Regis to go with a goal at Black Hills State and Sunday's brace, which was her first career multi-goal game.
- Both Shin and LaTourette are now at a team-leading four assists this year. LaTourette bumped her team-best points tally to 18.
- Emi Higgins' assist on the opening goal was the first of her career.
- The Mines defense has worked three straight shutouts and have played 298:18 of scoreless soccer dating back to the MSU Denver game.
- Mines will make its 13th consecutive RMAC Tournament appearance.
- The Oredigger senior class - Mickey Hostetler, Nicole LaTourette, Shannon Mooney, Audrey Shin, Giselle Sawaged, and Lindsey Tornabene - won their 71st game and are an exceptional 71-10-5 over the last four years.
