Orediggers Fall In OT To St. Mary's, 85-84

GOLDEN, Colo. - #14 Colorado School of Mines erased a 19-point deficit to force overtime, but St. Mary's used a late three-pointer and foul shooting to secure an 85-84 win in the season opener at Lockridge Arena.

The Orediggers overcame a dismal first half that saw them trail 47-28 by shooting 16-for-25 (64%) in the second half, eventually forcing overtime by scoring the final seven points of regulation. Michael Glen produced one of the best games of his career with a game-high 26 points and 13 rebounds, while Brendan Sullivan had 21 points and eight boards and Mason Baker drained 20.

Caleb Jordan (21 points) and Markques Houston (20 points) led St. Mary's as Dylan Isenhower was a spark off the bench with 17.

The Rattler were red-hot in the first half sinking 55.6 percent of their shots to start while holding Mines to 33.3 percent, and St. Mary's never trailed after the opening minutes as they raced out to a 47-28 halftime lead on Jordan's 17 points. Mines slowly got things going in the second half, however, as a Titus Reed three-pointer at the halfway point sparked a 7-2 run that eventually drew them within 10 points after Baker sank two free throws at the 7:29 mark.

Baker then sank a three to cut the deficit to single digits for the first time since early in the second half, but a Houston three-pointer with 5:06 left re-set the Rattler lead to 10. Sullivan then took over with a three-point play before Baker's jumper made it 72-67, and after Houston sank a layup with 3:12 left, Mines would hold St. Mary's scoreless for the remainder of regulation. Glen's three-pointer ignited the run, and Sullivan and Glen both made free throws with just over a minute left to tie the game. Both teams had looks to go ahead or win in the final minute but it ended up 74-74 after 40 minutes.

St. Mary's scored the first six points of overtime before Baker foul shots and a layup by Glen brough it back to 80-78; a dagger three by Houston as the shot clock expired put the Rattlers up five with 23 seconds remaining, however, and after Baker made a three, Jordan sank both of his free throws to make Reed's three at the buzzer academic.
