GAME 1 - MINES 4, DIXIE STATE 2
Boston Ludlow's three-run home run in the first inning held up as the difference as
Sydney Marchando and
Claire Stringfellow combined to help beat Dixie State 4-2 in the series opener.Â
With hits at a premium, Mines made the most of their opportunities as Ludlow's homer and
Clara Larson's third-inning RBI single were all the scoring they needed. DSU out-hit Mines 10-3 in the game.
In the first,
Kendall Murphy walked and
Katie Leiker was hit by a pitch to put two on, and after a pair of strikeouts, Ludlow sent a 3-2 pitch deep over the leftfield fence to take a 3-0 lead.
Dixie State ate into the Oredigger advantage with two runs in the third as a Taylor Godfrey sac fly and Jessica Gonzalez single drove in two runs in an error-extended inning. Mines got a run back in the bottom half when Murphy ended up on third after an outfield collision caused a dropped fly, and Larson's single brought her in for a 4-2 lead.
Dixie State threatened with two singles to start the fourth before Stringfellow entered and induced three straight outs, and she cruised from there to cement the win for Mines.
Marchando had the start and departed in the fourth having struck out four and allowed two runs, neither earned; she left the game ahead but did not qualify for a decision.
Claire Stringfellow (5-5) earned the win pitching 4.0 innings of scoreless relief. Cambrie Hazel (7-3) allowed three earned but allowed only three hits while striking out 13.

GAME 2 - DIXIE STATE 4, MINES 1
Dixie State's Carissa Burgess carried a no-hitter into the sixth as she helped the Trailblazers cruise 4-1 in the day's second game.
DSU did all of its scoring in the first two innings to back up Burgess' strong start as she ultimately allowed just three hits and one run in the complete game effort.
The Trailblazers got on the board when Jessica Gonzalez flied out in foul territory to score Kasey Crawford from third in the first innings, and Kaitlyn Delange's two-run single made it 3-0 in the second before she scored on Brenna Cornwall's attempted steal later in the inning.
The score would stay 4-0 until the seventh when Mines tried to mount a late rally;
Clara Larson's lead-off single turned into a run on
Megan Dickson's poke to center to make it a 4-1 final.
Maddie Rogers (0-2) took the loss allowing three runs over the first 1.1 innings;
Kylie Redding had a terrific relief stint allowing one run off four hits in 5.2 innings, facing the minimum over her final four innings of work to calm the game.Â
Burgess (11-2) had a no-hitter until
Hana Mawlawi broke it up with a lead-off single in the sixth, and struck out three in an 80-pitch outing.
