GAME 1 - MINES 9, REGIS 3
Colorado School of Mines scored six unanswered runs over the final two innings to break a 3-3 tie and win the series opener, 9-3, over Regis.
The Orediggers scored four in the sixth and two in the seventh to win as eight different players recorded hits and
Kendall Murphy,
Kara Jones, and
Boston Ludlow each drove in a pair of runs. Mines generated five extra-base hits out of 14 in all, including Murphy's home run and triples by
Katie Leiker and
Clara Larson; Murphy had a three-hit game and also scored three times.
The offensive outburst supported a fine start by
Sydney Marchando, who improved to 10-3 allowing three runs (two earned) and striking out four with no walks in the complete-game win.
Mines never trailed in the game but Regis rallied twice to tie it after spotting the Orediggers a 2-0 lead in the first. Murphy led off with a single and later scored on Jones' double, and Leiker came across on Ludlow's groundout to set the early lead. Regis pulled a run back in the bottom half when Analece Apodaca reached on an error to score Kynra Nelson, and the Rangers later tied the game on a fourth-inning Laura Scheffel squeeze bunt to score Macy Cox from third.
The Orediggers retook the lead in the top of the fifth when Jones singled to plate Larson, but Tori Brown's solo home run in the bottom half knotted the game at 3-3. It was all Mines after that, however, as they scored four runs in the sixth to seize control of the game. After
Stefanie Brunello was hit by a pitch and stole second, Murphy launched her third homer of the year to lead 5-3, and Leiker then walked and scored on Larson's double; Larson later scored on Ludlow's single to make it 7-3. Mines added insurance in the top of the seventh with Murphy's single to score Brunello and Leiker's RBI triple.
Marchando worked a 1-2-3 seventh to seal the game as she became the first Oredigger to hit double-digit wins this season. Taylor Armitage (8-10) took the loss allowing seven runs, while reliever Cortney Sexton allowed two in an inning of work.
GAME 2 - MINES 6, REGIS 3
Mines again rallied in the final innings, erasing a 3-1 Regis lead with five runs across the sixth and seventh to win the late game 6-3.
Boston Ludlow went 3-for-4 - all extra-base hits - and drove in three while
Clara Larson,
Megan Dickson, and
Claire Smith also recorded RBI in the comeback win. Mines tied the game with a two-run sixth, then plated three in the top of the seventh to win. The Orediggers again slugged their way to the win as six of their 10 hits were for extra bases.
Claire Stringfellow went the distance to improve to 9-5, putting six zeros on the board and striking out a season-high seven.
All of Regis' scoring came in the third as they broke the scoreless deadlock with three hits. Allisha Martinez scored on Tori Brown's double to start things off before Analece Apodaca smashed a home run to deep center to lead 3-0. The Orediggers began to chip away at the deficit in the fourth when
Megan Dickson singled to bring
Kara Jones home, but they would have to wait until the sixth to find new life.
Jones and Ludlow led off the sixth with back-to-back doubles to make it a 3-2 game, and Smith worked a pinch-hit single to score Ludlow from third later in the inning to tie it up 3-3. After Stringfellow worked a 1-2-3 bottom half, the Orediggers opened the seventh with
Kendall Murphy's double down the line, and she scored the go-ahead run off another double from Larson before Ludlow's triple scored two more runs to lead 6-3. Stringfellow then induced three straight outs after giving up a leadoff double in the seventh to seal the victory.
Maisie Mortimer (3-6) took the loss allowing four runs over six innings; Taylor Armitage entered in the seventh and gave up two more for Regis.
