#25 Orediggers Sweep Past Fort Lewis

GOLDEN, Colo. – The #25-ranked Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team won its first true road match of the season Friday night in a sweep of Fort Lewis inside Whalen Gym.

Abby Tiesman's 12-kill, 10-dig double-double highlighted the 3-0 victory. She also hit .500 and added four total blocks. Taylor Hicken ended with double-digit kills as well, knocking down 10 on 25 attempts while adding one block and one dig. While Tiesman's 10 digs were a match best, Elle Duis's nine digs were not far behind. Danielle Mullen added two service aces and Drew Stokes put a bow on it by way of 41 assists, two blocks and five digs.

Mines (9-2, 2-1 RMAC) hit just .231 as a team, but held Fort Lewis (4-8, 0-3 RMAC) to a stingy .066 on the attack. The Orediggers nearly doubled up the Skyhawks in kills (45-26) and assists (43-22), and committed zero receiving errors in the service game. However, FLC did edge out Mines in total bocks by a margin of 6-5. It would not be enough as the Skyhawks remained winless in RMAC play while the Orediggers moved above the .500 mark in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Fort Lewis charged out of the gate and took a 5-0 lead on the visitors from Golden. It would be just one of three times all night that the Skyhawks would have the lead. Mines answered back with four unanswered points courtesy of two kills and one block off the hands of Tiesman. That would set the tone for seven, first-set kills by Tiesman as the Orediggers came from behind for a dominant, 25-18 win in the opening game.

Mines dominated the second set in nearly every facet of the game, hitting .345 as team and holding FLC to a .000 attack percentage. Hicken notched four kills in the frame and one of two blocks in the set (Tiesman and Stokes) would cap a 25-16 win in which Fort Lewis never led and a 2-0 lead in the match. The home team would find the lead twice in the final set, but a hitting percentage of .116 and five kills from Amanda Donais were too much. Mines clinched the victory, 25-20.
