Overholt, Edwards Fire #16 Mines Past St. Edward's

AUSTIN, Texas - #16 Colorado School of Mines used second-half goals from Ben Overholt and Ford Edwards to get by regional rival St. Edward's 2-0 in the 2019 season opener.

The Orediggers were led by Overholt's goal and an assist to overcome a slow start and a possession-minded Hilltoppers side that outshot Mines 14-6. It was all about efficiency, though, as Mines scored on two of their three shots on goal and SEU only put four of 14 tries on goal, all saved by Drew Johnson.

Mines took only one shot in the first half to the Hilltoppers' five, but finally broke through on the hour when Overholt bent a shot inside the far post to take a 1-0 lead. Edwards headed home only four minutes later when Overholt fed him a cross from the left to double the lead.

The Oredigger defense clamped down after that, allowing only two shots in the final half-hour of the game with neither getting to Johnson.
