#18 Mines Dominates In RMAC Openers

GOLDEN, Colo. - #18 Colorado School of Mines got its RMAC schedule off to a great start, beating New Mexico Highlands and #25 San Francisco State handily at Volk Gym.

Mines (4-2, 2-0 RMAC) handled NMHU 31-16 to start before topping the Gators of SFSU 32-13. Bonus points played a big factor with four falls in the opener and three in the nightcap; Jake Woods led the way with a pair of pins at 133 pounds, while Matt Lavengood, Skyler Lykins, and Nolan Funk each went 2-0 on the day. 

New Mexico Highlands beat San Francisco State 27-20 in the opening dual of the day's tri-meet. 
 

#18 Colorado School of Mines 31, New Mexico Highlands 16
Four falls among five bonus-point wins overall led Mines in a 31-16 win over New Mexico Highlands.

Matt Lavengood got things off to a terrific start with a pin in 49 seconds over Marcus Santillanes at 125, and Jake Woods also scored a first-period stick of Issac Garcia to make it 12-0. NMHU got back-to-back wins at 141 and 149, but Ryan Fidel and Skyler Lykins got the momentum right back with consecutive pins at 157 and 165 to lead 24-9.

Anderson Salisbury scored a 3-0 shutout of Lance Kilgore at 184 and Nolan Funk dominated in an 18-5 major over Luke Allan at 197 to wrap up their scoring.

#18 Colorado School of Mines 32, #25 San Francisco State 13
Another five bonus-point victories propelled Mines to a 32-13 win over #25 San Francisco State in Friday's second dual.

Mines never trailed, taking a 15-0 lead after three weight classes thanks to Lavengood's 6-4 decision at 125 and pins by Woods and Taylor Gambill at 133 and 141, respectively. 

SFSU earned a major decision win by Mason Boutain at 149 and #12 Maxamillian Schneider pinned Ryan Fidel just before the buzzer at 157, but the Orediggers reeled off wins at 165 as Lykins majored Elias Rosales 11-2 at 165 and TJ Shelton picked up a 7-2 win over Maleselino Salt at 174. Anderson Salisbury nearly pulled off the upset against #5 Justin Pichedwatana with only riding time the difference in a 5-4 decision.

Mines ended on a high note as Nolan Funk pinned John Chetwynd in 2:22 at 197, and heavyweight Weston Hunt rolled 13-1 in a major decision over Justin Ramos.
