GOLDEN, Colo. - Thirty-two current and former Colorado School of Mines student-athletes earned degrees this week as part of the university's midyear commencement exercises.
In a special week-long, socially-distanced arrangement in Steinhauer Fieldhouse, graduates and their families experienced individual walks across the stage to receive their diploma covers, with elbow bumps replacing the traditional handshake. Oredigger student-athletes earned 21 bachelor's, 10 master's, and one doctoral degree and represented a dozen teams. The accomplished class included 23 RMAC champions, 22 NCAA qualifiers, four all-Americans, and four national champions.
The Orediggers' Winter 2020 President's Senior Scholar-Athletes were
volleyball's Delaney Duis and soccer's Ford Edwards. The award is given to one male and one female graduating student-athlete who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and the leadership qualities of an exemplary student-athlete. Edwards was also named the outstanding graduating senior for the petroleum engineering department.
