GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Event wins by
Jorie Selig and
Ronan Lauinger highlighted the first day of the CMU Duals at Colorado Mesa.
The #22 Oredigger men were 1-1 in their triangular against #8 Colorado Mesa and Augustana, beating Augie, while the #23 Mines women were 1-2 in their quadrangular with a win over Western Colorado and losses to #9 CMU and #21 Augustana. The meet included several non-traditional 300-yard events as well as a a selection of standard distances.
Freshman
Ronan Lauinger won the 400-IM by a tenth of a second, touching in 4:08.33 with
Braden Whitmarsh fourth (4:12.98) and
Joe Peak fifth (4:16.45).
Garrett Waite was third in the 200-free at 1:44.44, and
Scott Reeder was fourth in the 1,650-free (17:07.77) a spot ahead of
Jaron O'Grady (17:08.46). Reeder later finished fifth in the 500-free in 4:54.92, and
Harry Smith grabbed fourth in the 50-free in 20.96.
In the men's 300-yard events, Peak was third in the butterfly (3:04.63), Whitmarsh fourth in the backstroke (3:06.60), and Lauinger second in the breaststroke (3:27.21).
The men's 200-medley relay (
Jarod Schahrer,
Harry Smith,
Braden Whitmarsh,
Cobi Wood) was third in 1:35.20, and the 200-free relay of Kietzman, Hunt, Waite, and Smith was second in 1:23.89.
Jorie Selig highlighted the women's night, doubling up with her 50-free win in 24.22 and a 100-free win by a tenth in 52.73.
Olivia Kisow was third in the 400-IM in 4:43.31, a spot ahead of
Erin Taggart in 4:45.80, and
Meghan Slowey was the top Oredigger in the 1,650-free, hitting the wall in 18:10.09 for third. Slowey later finished fifth in the 500-free (5:27.65) with
Isabella Bono (5:28.67) and Kisow (5:28.97) right behind.
In the 300s, Taggart led Mines in the butterfly in third (3:34.75) while
Sam Henney was second in the backstroke (3:18.46) and
Connie Lee third in the breakstroke (3:56.75).
In relay action, the women's 200-medley relay of
Sam Henney,
Connie Lee,
Erin Taggart, and
Maddie Finley was third in 1:52.01, and the 200-free relay of Finley,
Lauren Mayo,
Maggie Wells, and Selig capped the night in a second-place 1:40.70.
Day 2 of the CMU Duals starts Saturday at 10 a.m. with a separately-scored session.
