Mines Goes 3-2 On CMU Duals' Second Day

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.
- Colorado School of Mines had a successful second day of the CMU Duals, improving on Friday's team results to go a combined 3-2. 

The #23-ranked Oredigger women flipped things around from Friday night against #21 Augustana with a 179-109 win, and also beat Western Colorado 210-78 with a 168-115 loss to #9 Colorado Mesa. The #22 men had the same results as Friday with a win over Augustana and a loss to #8 CMU.

The women had four event victories, including freshman Sophia Buhr's 58.93 time in the 100-fly to win in a 1-2 with Erin Taggart (59.77); they flipped in the 200-fly as Taggart won in 2:10.52 in a 1-2 finish with Buhr, and  Jorie Selig repeated her 50-free win from Friday with an NCAA B time of 23.94. Selig was also second in the 100-free in 52.46 only two-hundreths off the win. 

Connie Lee picked up a second-place 1:07.56 finish in the 100-breaststroke, and repeated that showing in the 200- at 2:28.06. Sam Henney was fourth in the 200-back (2:09.39), Olivia Kisow touched third in the 500-free (5:16.85) and was fourth in the 200-free (1:56.98), and also took full points in exhibition in the 200-IM at 2:11.36. Emma Neuroth was fifth in the 100-back at 1:00.12 and Isabella Bono led Mines in the 1000-free with a fifth-place 11:16.66. 

The 400-medley relay (Neuroth, Lee, Buhr, Wells) was second in 4:02.42, and the 400-free relay (Finley, Slowey, Wells, Selig) hit in 3:40.88 for first in points and third on time.

For the men, Harry Smith finished second on time and first in points in the 100-fly (49.92), was third in the 100-back in 50.96, and was the top Oredigger in the 50-free in a fourth-place 21.01. Braden Whitmarsh was third overall and first in points in the 200-IM (1:55.25).

Among other top Oredigger performances, Henry Oberley was second in the 1000-free in 9:58.73, Nick Delany took third in both the 200-free (1:44.11) and the 200-breast (2:10.46), and Charles Burroughs took third in the 200-fly in 1:52.23. Gavin Gilmore was fifth in the 100-breaststroke in 59.67, and Owen Nord took fifth in the 100-free in 47.89 while Joe Peak finished fifth in the 500-free in 4:52.54. 

The men's 400-medley relay (Waite, Gilmore, Burroughs, Kietzman) was third in 3:28.03 as was the 400-free relay (Smith, LaPrade, Hunt, Kietzman) in 3:07.44.

The Orediggers will take a break to train before the four-day A3 Performance Invite begins back in Grand Junction on Nov. 17.
