Corbett, Defense Lift Mines Over MSU Denver

GOLDEN, Colo. - Landry Corbett's 80th-minute goal combined with a superb team defensive performance as Colorado School of Mines defeated MSU Denver 1-0 on Sunday.

The Roadrunners (4-2-2, 2-2-0 RMAC) dominated the game with two-thirds of the possession and a 16-5 shots advantage, but could not solve Sierra Roth and the Mines (7-1-2, 4-0-0 RMAC) defense as Roth stopped eight in the shutout.

A lackluster first half saw MSU Denver outshoot Mines 6-1 as the Orediggers struggled to get the ball on net despite several quality set piece opportunities. Play opened up in the second half as the Roadrunners' Katy Harris hit the crossbar early on, and Mines had to sustain a period of attack by MSU Denver that included four Roth saves in a 10-minute span mid-half.

Corbett's goal came off a gorgeous creation by Reese McDermott, who dodged a defender and served the ball forward from the center circle to create the breakway chance. Corbett had beaten her marker and finished right-footed across her body from seven yards out.

Roth made six of her eight saves in the final 35 minutes of the game, including a spectacular diving stop of Katy Coats in the 62nd minute and two stops off shots by Annie Rolf and Miriam Caballero in the final three minutes. Center back Katie Koehler cleared a ball from the line in the 88th minute as well as Mines survived a string of three straight Roadrunner corners.
