GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines kicked off the 2021 A3 Performance Invitational with three events Wednesday night at Colorado Mesa.
The opening night of the meet saw the 1,000-free contested along with the 200-medley and 800-free relays. With the three events scored, Mines is second on the women's side with 149 points, trailing CMU's 204; the men are also second at 203 not far behind Mesa's 221 pace.
The 200-medley relay kicked off the meet with the Mines women's A relay of
Emma Neuroth,
Jorie Selig,
Erin Taggart, and
Maddie Finley finishing fifth in 1:46.83. The men took third as the B relay of
Seth Krause,
Gavin Gilmore,
Robert Clayton, and
Garrett Waite provided a 1:30.98 time keyed by Waite's 19.86 final leg.
In the women's 1,000-free,
Meghan Slowey set an NCAA B time of 10:27.44 for second, and
Isabella Bono provided team points with her fourth-place 10:43.60. For the men,
Henry Oberley (5th, 9:55.45),
Ronan Lauinger (6th, 9:55.79),
Andres Saa (7th, 9:56.96), and
Austin Rich (8th, 9:57.03) all finished in the top eight and Mines scored big team points with nine competitors overall in the top 16.
The 800-free relay capped the first night of the meet with the women's A relay of
Olivia Kisow,
Maggie Wells, Slowey, and
Connie Lee finishing fifth in 7:48.41. The men's A relay of
Nick Delany,
Braden Hunt,
Joe Peak, and Waite was third in 6:50.93 with Waite closing in 1:40 flat.
The meet continues Thursday with 10 a.m. prelims and 5 p.m. finals.
