GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - More program records and NCAA qualifying times were produced by Colorado School of Mines on a fast final day of the A3 Performance Invitational at Colorado Mesa.Â
Harry Smith set his second program record of the meet to finish as the week's co-second-highest point scorer, and anchored the 200-free relay to another program best as well. Smith and
Charles Burroughs each scored 61 points across the meet for second, while
Erin Taggart closed as the women's top pointscorer with 50.Â
In the team race, Northern Arizona and Colorado Mesa tied for first with 1,168 points on the women's side with Mines third at 637; the Oredigger men were second at 1,112.5 behind CMU's 1,607.5.Â
1650-FREE
Meghan Slowey set an NCAA B time of 17:27.20 to finish third overall and first among D-II swimmers in the mile, and
Isabella Bono came in eighth at 17:55.48. Five Oredigger men scored as
Josh Lee,
Jaron O'Grady,
Henry Oberley,
Scott Reeder, and
Austin Rich finished 5-9 respectively led by Lee's 16:38.80 time.Â
200-BACK
Garrett Waite set an NCAA B time of 1:49.82 for fifth in the 200-back, a spot ahead of
Jarod Schahrer in 1:53.45.
Sam Henney was the top women's finisher in an 11th-place 2:09.63.
100-FREE
Harry Smith reset his own program record in the 100-free in prelims with the field's fastest time of 44.65, shaving fourth-hundreths off his mark set at the 2021 RMAC Championships in the same pool. Smith ended up third in finals with a time of 45.05, and set an NCAA B qualifying mark in the process.
Braden Hunt was sixth in 46.65, and
Michael Kietzman eighth at 47.06.
Jorie Selig was eighth to lead the women in 53.02 with
Maggie Wells 11th at 54.00.
200-BREAST
Olivia Kisow and
Connie Lee qualified for the A final in the 200-breaststroke and finished sixth (2:26.44) and seventh (2:27.21) respectively. The men were led by
Jack Engler in fourth at 2:07.62, with
Nick Delany,
Ronan Lauinger,
Gavin Gilmore, and
Nathan O'Neil finishing in spots 5-8 behind him.Â
200-FLY
Charles Burroughs set an NCAA qualifying time of 1:49.73 to take second in the 200-fly, with
Joe Peak's 1:52.33 good for fourth,
Robert Clayton finishing sixth, and
Jaron O'Grady eighth.
Erin Taggart finished seventh in the women's race in 2:13.63, just ahead of teammate
Sophia Buhr in 2:13.83.
400-FREE RELAY
Waite, Hunt, Clayton, and Smith finished third to cap the meet in the 400-free relay, clocking 3:02.18 with Smith closing on a 45.03 split. The women's relay of Selig, wells, Lee, and Finley combined for a 3:34.37 time and fifth place led by Selig's 53.04 leadoff.Â
200-FREE RELAY
Mines put together a 200-free time trial and set a new program record in the process as Kietzman, Waite, Hunt, and Smith swam 1:21.85 on their own. That took about a quarter-second off the mark of 1:22.06 set at last year's RMACs as Smith finished in a blistering 19.91.Â

The Orediggers will break for finals and the holidays before returning in the second semester to face Air Force and Colorado Mesa in Colorado Springs on Jan. 7.
