GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines picked up its first conference win of the young season with a big defensive effort to cruise past South Dakota Mines, 64-42.
The Orediggers (3-3, 1-1 RMAC) got contributions from all over the floor led by
Ben Boone's 18 points as they held the Hardrockers (2-5, 0-1 RMAC) to just .288 shooting overall.
Brendan Sullivan had 13 points, two steals, two blocks, and two assists, and
Adam Krasovec set a new career high with 12 points. The Orediggers shot .466 for the game.
After trading buckets in the opening minutes, a Boone three-pointer set off a 12-0 Oredigger run to break the game open at 16-5, and Mines only extended the lead from there, ending the first half on an 11-1 run and holding the Hardrockers without a field goal from the final 8:21 of the first to lead 38-17 at the half.
The second half was more even as the Orediggers outscored SDM only 26-25, but the Hardrockers never seriously threatened as Mines kept the lead around 20 points for virtually the entire half.
