CANYON, Texas - Kylie Redding starred in the circle and at the plate to help Colorado School of Mines pick up its first win of the season, 5-2, in a non-conference game against UCCS at West Texas A&M.
The Orediggers (1-2) racked up eight hits and worked out of four errors, forcing the Mountain Lions (1-2) to strand eight baserunners.
Redding (1-0) struck out two and scattered five hits in the complete-game victory, and also smacked a three-run inside the park home run to put Mines ahead in the first inning. With
Kayleigh Krueger on second and
Clara Larson on third, Redding sliced a ball that the centerfielder lost in the sun; the first two runs scored easily, and Redding was waved around third and beat the throw home for her first career roundtrip.
Megan Dickson extended the lead in the third, doubling down the rightfield line to bring home
Sidney Wilson and Redding. UCCS' runs both came on sacrifice flies, by Brianna Santos in the fifth and Peyton Reisman in the seventh, but Redding worked out of trouble in both frames to preserve the win.
Redding ended up 2-for-3 and scored two runs;
Stefanie Brunello,
Kayleigh Krueger,
Sydney Marchando,
Sidney Wilson, Dickson, and
Aubree Karraker each had hits, with Wilson's the first of her collegiate career and Karraker's her first as an Oredigger.
Clara Larson walked twice and scored a run.
Gabrielle Cronin (0-1) took the loss, striking out four and walking two for UCCS.
Mines wraps up the weekend later on Sunday against West Texas A&M.
