#9 Mines Wins Opener, 1-0, vs. Adams St.

GOLDEN, Colo. - Greyson Adams' second-half goal lifted #9 Colorado School of Mines to a deserved 1-0 win over Adams State in their season debut.

Playing an official match for the first time in 471 days, the Orediggers (1-0, 1-0 RMAC) did not lack in the possession or shooting department, but finishing eluded them in the first half as the Grizzlies (0-1, 0-1 RMAC) were kept in the game by goalkeeper's Matthew Burcin's four saves.

Mines outshot Adams State 18-1 overall and enjoyed a 66-34 percent possession advantage.

The Orediggers had several great chances in the first half, first when defender Vaughn Simpson thumped a corner header met by Burcin at the upper left corner, and later when Chris Seery's close-in chance dribbled just right of the post.

In the second half, Mines had a string of corner kicks before one in the 56th minute paid off. The corner was punched out by Burcin and fell to Adams at the top of the box; the senior defender slammed home a shot through traffic for the 1-0 lead. Mines then had two more apparent goals disallowed due to offsides, first by Lucas King in the 58th minute and then by Eric Boone in the 84th.
