Undoubtedly the most decorated student-athlete in Mines history, cross country/track & field's Mack McLain joins the Mines Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2021.

A three-time national champion on the track, McLain's 12 career all-America awards are the most by any Oredigger in any sport. A middle-distance specialist, he won NCAA Division II titles in three consecutive years, helping the 2009 indoor distance medley relay (along with fellow Class of 2021 inductee Mark Husted) win gold before individually capturing the 2010 outdoor 1,500m run and the 2011 indoor mile crowns. His is Mines' only three-time national champion in any sport, and he was a four-time all-American miler indoors as well as a three-time honoree in the outdoor 1,500m.

A decade after graduating, McLain remains the Mines 1,500m (3:43.20) and mile (4:02.70) record holder and also ranks sixth all-time in the outdoor 5,000m (14:08.53) and appears three times in the top-10 DMR times.

McLain was also an accomplished cross country runner, earning all-America honors with a 34th-place finish at the 2010 NCAA Division II Championships, and he helped the Orediggers to the team's first podium - a third-place finish - in 2009, setting the stage for the program's next decade of success.

After Mines, McLain ran professionally with Boulder Running Company/adidas and has competed at the United State Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

A native of Edmond, Okla., McLain earned his undergraduate degree in geological engineering in 2012 and a master's in geotechnical engineering in 2015.
