WINTER PARK, Fla. - #25 Colorado School of Mines scored in each half as they came away with a 2-0 win at Rollins College on Thursday.
The Orediggers (3-0-2) looked fully in control in the rain against the Tars (1-4-0) as
Emma Peterson and
Amena Nelson scored to earn the result.
Sierra Roth made four saves to pick up another shutout, her fourth of the season.
Peterson put Mines on the board with a spectacular strike in the 13th minute. After a long throw by
Landry Corbett deflected back out of the box, Peterson dispossessed a defender at midfield and volleyed a rocket to the right post from 30 yards out, beating a diving Elena Beasley.
Mines had several other significant scoring attempts, including
Hannah Rowan's attempt just wide left in the 65th minute and a dipping free kick over the bar by
Jordan Barnhart in the 77th minute. But it was a breakaway in the 80th minute that let Nelson seal the win as she chipped the goalkeeper from nine yards out to make it 2-0.
