GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines men's and women's basketball will both play preseason exhibitions at the University of Colorado this season.
The Oredigger men will take on the Buffs Oct. 27 at 7 p.m., and the women will visit Nov. 1 for a 7 p.m. tip. Both games will be at the CU Events Center; ticket information will be announced at a later date.
The exhibitions should be a good preseason test for all four programs. The Oredigger men went 18-3 in 2020-21, spending six weeks ranked #1 in NCAA Division II before winning the West regional and advancing to the NCAA Elite Eight for the second time in program history. Mines returns three starters -
Kobi Betts,
Ben Boone, and
Brendan Sullivan - plus nearly their entire bench production from that team. The Buffs have equally high expectations after going 23-9 last season and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. They reached the 2021 Pac-12 Tournament final, and went 4-0 in a summer tour of Costa Rica.
The Mines women were the RMAC regular-season champions and advanced to the RMAC Tournament final before COVID-19 halted one of the best seasons in program history. The Orediggers bring back all five starters from that 17-3 team including
Denali Pinto,
Courtney Stanton,
Ashley Steffeck,
Sammy Van Sickle, and
Liz Holter. CU went 12-11 and made a postseason run in the Women's NIT, where they advanced to the quarterfinals.
