GUNNISON, Colo. - Back-to-back wins by
Anderson Salisbury and
Perry Rodenbeck late in the dual broke open a tie score and helped #21 Colorado School of Mines beat Western Colorado, 22-17, to remain perfect in RMAC action this season.
Pins by
Tyler Krause and Rodenbeck, plus
Grayston DiBlasi's upset of #10 Dean Noble, keyed the win for Mines as the two teams split bouts 5-5, but bonus points made the difference. Tied 13-13 after seven weight classes, Salisbury's decision put the Orediggers (6-1, 4-0 RMAC) ahead but it was Rodenbeck's first-period fall at 197 that secured the team win.
Cody Fatzinger's takedown with 13 seconds left in the match got the Mountaineers on the board first as he defeated
Christian Lopez 4-1 in a defensive battle, but Mines took the lead at 133 pounds as
Tyler Krause rebounded from an early takedown to score seven points in the first, then tilted Zack Flowers late in the second period for the pin and a 6-3 team lead.
DiBlasi earned the biggest win of his young career with a 10-2 major decision over Noble at 141. DiBlasi rode out a first-period takedown, then turned Noble for four before the two traded reversals in the second period, and a third-period escape and riding time gave DiBlasi the bonus point.
Jason Hanenberg defeat
Cody Thompson at 149, 12-6, in a bout where both men had pinning opportunities, but a crucial reversal before the buzzer by Thompson prevented the bonus point.
Carter Noehre's late escape was the edge as he came from behind to defeat Ryan Wilson 4-3 at 157 for a 13-6 match lead, but Western countered with Hunter Mullin's 17-7 major over
Jack Damenti at 165.
Ryan Fidel's bout at 174 with Jimmy Laconte came down to who scored last as Lactone's takedown with five seconds left won it 9-8 and tied the dual 13-13;
Anderson Salisbury controlled his 184-pound bout to defeat Cole Gray 8-5 and retake the lead 16-13.
That took it down to the final two bouts, but Rodenbeck ensured Mines would only need one as he pancaked Porter Fox in 1:36 to secure the dual win. Heavyweight was moot as Sammy Deseriere defeated
Mike True 14-4.
