GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Wednesday evening saw an outstanding start to the TYR/CMU Invitational for the Colorado School of Mines Men's and Women's Swimming teams, with multiple records and NCAA-qualifying times at CMU El Pomar Natatorium.
Â
Both the Oredigger men and Mines' women accounted for one program record and one NCAA-qualifying time each. For the women, it was the 200-medley relay accounting for the record while
Meghan Slowey posted a NCAA "B" time. On the men's side, the 800-freestyle relay slayed the program record and
Ronan Lauinger raced to a NCAA "B" time of his own. In the team race, both Oredigger squads finished opening day #2 in the standings. Mines' women boast 155 points, and sit just 52 points behind first-place Colorado Mesa while leading NCAA Division I Northern Arizona by 16 points. The Oredigger men tout 194 points to trail the first-place Mavericks by 18.
Â
The evening of timed finals started with
Emma Neuroth,
Cameryn Schmidt,
Annie Osmun, and
Jorie Selig combining in the 200-medley relay to touch in 1:43.27. It bested the previous record held by Daphne Williams, Abigail Wong, Madeleine Oakley, and Mia Wood by more than a second. Slowey continued the night with her NCAA "B" time of 10:24.28 in the 1000-free. Right after that, Lauinger posted his NCAA cut on the men's side in the same event, finishing in 9:38.21. Capping the highlights was the men's quartet of
Garrett Waite,
Jakson Winn,
Michael Kietzman, and
Joe Peak posting a 6:43.00 in the 800-freestyle relay. That time was 2.5 seconds faster than the previous record of Zack Gertig, Josh Graber, Ethan Pfeiffer, and Kyle Burt set in 2014.
Â
Also notable was the men's 200-medley relay.
Sam LaPrade, Waite,
Charles Burroughs, and
Seth Krause touched just .05 seconds shy of the program record with a time of 1:28.81. Individually,
